A young recruit, eager to prove himself, was exhausting his energy each day trying to impress everyone—his peers, his seniors, and even those who barely noticed him. Seeing his struggle, a seasoned leader invited him for a quiet cup of tea.
“Sir,” the recruit asked, “how do I keep everyone impressed and make my way up?”
The leader smiled, as if recalling a conversation from his own past. “Stop trying to impress, and start expressing. There will always be some who appreciate you and some who don’t. Don’t lose yourself trying to fit their expectations. Focus on improving your skills and doing what you do best—your strengths are your home ground in every match of life.”
The recruit listened carefully, feeling the weight lift off his shoulders.
Learning: Work with purpose, not for applause. When you give your best, recognition naturally follows.
